Herbs are so much fun to grow. Most are pretty hearty. Many are perennials. Plus, they’re so healthy, tasty and add such flavor to food that new flavor discoveries guide you happily away from unhealthy alternatives.

- Lavender (iffy in Zone 5 as a perennial)
Annual staples include:
- Cilantro (easy to harvest seeds for next year)
- Dill (will reseed of allowed to fully mature)
- Parsley (will reseed if you leave first year plants in the ground for a second year – two-year old plants are bitter, so you’ll need to crops before you can rely on self seeding supplies)
